Veira calls on the Chinese Skyworth for the design and R&D of Android TV

Noida-based Original Design Manufacturing (ODM) company, Veira Group, which specializes in manufacturing smart TVs under a range of retail brands, has announced a partnership with China’s Skyworth Group to upgrade its smart TV initiative. manufacture of smart televisions. A related press release said that with this partnership, Skyworth Group will deliver “technology upgrades and cost optimization” for Android TVs – Google’s smart TV operating system.

The partnership comes about a month after the company unveiled its second manufacturing facility in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh. Announced on September 26, Veira Group announced plans to invest ₹200 crore in its new factory, which will help the company increase its total manufacturing capacity to 4 million smart TVs per year.

Previously, Veira had its main factory in Sector 63 of Noida, from which it produced 1 million smart TVs for various retail brands in India. According to the company, it has more than 25 retail brands among its customers, including Haier and Infinix, and manufactures TVs ranging from 23-inch to 75-inch, and priced from ₹5,000 to ₹1,50,000. interval.

The partnership will apparently offer Veira access to Skyworth’s Android TV technology designs, and will also involve resources for the Veira Group to conduct research and development (R&D) to create better products. The company’s new facility in Greater Noida will also include an R&D division which will seek to create products of new form factors.

The move comes as India’s smart TV market ODMs have seeking global partnerships and licenses to strengthen their TV offerings. Manufacturers such as Dixon, Videotex and Super Plastronics (SPPL) are among those who have obtained licenses from Android TV maker Google. These licenses help companies become an ODM, rather than just an original equipment manufacturer (OEM).

While OEMs are only involved in assembling and retailing a product, ODMs have the freedom to design their own products based on reference designs and software platforms. Being one of the latter gives contract manufacturers such as Veira, Dixon, Videotex or SPPL the opportunity to attract multiple brands and manufacture products for more customers.
