  • The Global Fund for Prosperity’s ‘Skills for Prosperity’ is a 2-year FCDO-funded program, which aims to improve the cost-effectiveness, access, quality, relevance and equity of skills through innovative approaches in 9 middle-income countries around the world, including Nigeria. .
  • In Nigeria, the Skills for Prosperity (S4P) country program will work in three targeted states to:
    • Improve access to higher education and quality TVET for youth and young women, with a focus on improving access and quality of learning, and supporting training institutions to provide demand-driven and competency-based training,
    • Strengthen the links between education and employment, and
    • Strengthen the capacity of training institutions to improve outcomes for vulnerable women and people with disabilities.
  • Learning, training and capacity building interventions will focus on identified high growth sectors of the economy (agriculture/agribusiness/agribusiness; creative and entertainment sectors, and information technology). information and communications).
  • S4P aims to directly benefit young people, vulnerable women and people with disabilities (PwDs) in the targeted states of Kaduna in the north and Lagos in the south.

About work

  • As we approach the final six months of implementation of Skills for Prosperity – Nigeria, we will redouble our efforts to widely disseminate the work and achievements of the programme, as well as share our knowledge, successful apprenticeship/internship models and our experiences improving the TVET sector in Nigeria.
  • We are therefore recruiting a Communications and Media Consultant with extensive experience, under the supervision of the Team Leader, to support the achievement of the program’s communications objective of effectively communicating the results of the program’s work with an international audience and local ; thus improving the visibility of problems, opportunities and the like. Specifically, we hope:
    • Show how S4P-N interventions respond to challenges faced by various stakeholders with respect to improving access, quality, relevance, including gender equality and inclusion considerations in the national apprenticeship and traineeship system
    • To increase awareness of critical systems and policy issues related to TVET in Nigeria
    • Make topical issues affecting the TVET sector, at national and sub-national levels, a priority for the media
  • The Communications and Media Consultant will undertake a needs assessment in the program response states if required and, upon approval, develop a plan tailored to the communications needs of the program.
  • S/he will provide advice, guidance and support on the planning and implementation of internal and external communications efforts to enhance awareness of the program’s work with international, national and local audiences and on online and online platforms. offline.
  • He/she will also support the creation and dissemination of content for offline and online media (social media and website).

Effectively develop and disseminate communications materials, including reports and news, briefings, articles, statements, speeches, fact sheets, case studies, publicity materials, videos, animations, media advisories, press releases, press/media kits and event reports, for an integrated mix of international and local communication channels, including social media, blogs, e-news, the media and others.

  • Develop and oversee the production of all communication and publicity materials for the events (presentations, graphics, handouts, banners and others), including liaising with technical managers and other relevant staff to obtain information to facilitate their development.
  • Ensure proper communication before, during and after all events including national and state events, knowledge sharing workshops/meetings, seminars, trainings, conferences and others.
  • Profile media channels that can be used to communicate with program audiences, develop a registry of media professionals, expand program contacts with print, TV, radio and social media to enhance exposure , respond to requests from the media and other external parties as appropriate, and carefully select media professionals to attend and cover Program events.
  • Support the program in strengthening its internal capacity for communication and knowledge sharing. This will include identifying capacity gaps and providing capacity building where appropriate and necessary.
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to gather and verify information for content development and media assessment, among others.
  • Identify and effectively communicate program activities and results with international platforms, both online and offline.
  • Support other communication and event management related tasks as required.


  • Evidence of media coverage of selected program events
  • Articles, social media posts, case studies, stories and other communication materials developed to share the Programme’s work and achievements.
  • Evidence of improved program visibility
  • Evidence of improved engagement and traffic on Program social media platforms.
  • Appropriately edited and captioned multimedia material – videos, photographs and others – developed for the program.
  • Capacity building workshop(s) on improving communication and media engagement.
  • Quarterly reports and newsletters on planned and executed activities.


  • Relevant academic qualifications in a related field.
  • Extensive experience in communications or a related field such as public relations, journalism, public affairs or international relations.
  • Fluency in English (oral and written) is essential.
  • Demonstrated experience and understanding of communication and advocacy at the international level, and proven ability to position and advocate on issues and influence government, private sector, civil society, donors and other stakeholders.
  • Experience in development, including conception, design, packaging and production, and dissemination of communication materials aimed at a wide range of audiences, and understanding of dissemination channels.
  • Proven track record in building and maintaining strong media relations.
  • Working knowledge of computer software and relevant online tools such as MS Office, WordPress, social media platforms, Adobe InDesign/Illustrator/Photoshop, Affinity Publisher/Designer/Photo, email procedures.
  • Experience and knowledge of social media, web and social analytics, and digital/multimedia communication strategies and tools.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills, ability to pay attention to detail, meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks efficiently and effectively, and ability to be innovative and proactive.
  • Demonstrated writing and editing skills, and the ability to convey complex ideas in a concise, clear, direct and interesting style.
  • Previous experience working with governments and/or international development agencies would be an asset.
